SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 4th August (EUROPA PRESS) –
Authorities from Tenerife Island Council have taken action against a fire that broke out early this morning on Camino Madroño Goteras, in the municipality of El Rosario. Personnel from the Brifor Operation and the Fire Consortium were involved in the operation, according to information from the Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (Cecoes) 1-1-2.
The fire affected an area of 50 square metres, predominantly chestnut trees. The Island Council’s Forest Fire Operation Coordination Centre (CECOPIN) initially declared the situation stabilized, which later progressed to being under control by 10:15 a.m.
The Cabildo has issued a reminder that level 1 measures are still in place, considering the current meteorological conditions and the forest fire risk alert declared by the General Directorate of Emergencies of the Government of the Canary Islands on Tenerife.
These measures prohibit the lighting of fires in recreational and outdoor areas, including barbecues, bonfires, stoves, or gas cookers. Moreover, the use of any equipment that could cause sparks (such as brush cutters, welding tools, or radial saws) and the use of pyrotechnic materials in high-risk areas are strictly forbidden.
Smoking is also banned in recreational areas, camping sites, hiking trails, viewpoints, and other public facilities situated in mountainous regions. The Council urges the public to exercise utmost caution in their activities within interface areas and mountainous terrains.
