SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 30th July (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Council of Tenerife Island continues to uphold level 1 precautions to address the threat of forest fires. Consequently, the lighting of fires in recreational and outdoor areas (such as barbecues, bonfires, gas stoves, or cookers) remains prohibited. Similarly, the use of any machinery or tools that could produce sparks (such as brush cutters, welding equipment, or radial saws), as well as the use of any pyrotechnic materials in high-risk zones, is prohibited. Smoking is also banned in recreational spaces, camping sites, nature reserves, paths, viewpoints, and other public amenities situated in mountainous areas.
Rosa Dávila, the President of the Cabildo, emphasised that the risk of forest fires still lingers. Despite the downgrade of measures from level 2 to level 1, the ban on lighting fires in recreational spots and smoking along paths, trails, and viewpoints persists. She stated, “Extreme caution must be exercised across the entire island concerning any activities that could potentially trigger fires.”
Consequently, throwing lit cigarette ends and matches – whether on foot or from a vehicle window – is prohibited. The ignition of rockets, firecrackers, fireworks, or any fire-containing gadgets in hazardous areas, even in open fields or on farmland, specifically in residential areas surrounded by woodland, is strictly forbidden. Additionally, individuals residing in homes situated in the interface region are recommended to maintain a clean environment, trim branches touching house fronts, possess essential fire-fighting equipment (such as hoses, axes), and ensure a readily available water supply.
