The Works and Infrastructure department of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council is overseeing the renovation of the northern breakwater at Las Teresitas beach. The project has been awarded to the company Satocan, with an investment of 2.1 million Euros, a portion of which is sourced from European Next Generation funds. The construction is expected to be completed within seven months.
City Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez, alongside councillors Javier Rivero and Gladis de León, as well as representatives from the construction company and municipal technicians, visited the beach area on Friday to inspect the ongoing works.
Bermúdez commended the progress of the renovation and pointed out that the restoration of the breakwater will provide pedestrian access to the sea, enhancing the beach area. He emphasized the urgency of the intervention, mentioning the missing blocks in the structure due to erosion along the outer slope and headland.
Councillor for Infrastructure, Javier Rivero, stated that the project is expected to be completed by December, and will involve replacing the damaged breakwater, revamping the promenade, constructing new sea access stairs, and linking the breakwater to the beach with a new ramp.
Gladis de León, the Anaga councillor, expressed her delight at the restoration project, highlighting the benefits for beach users, local residents, and tourists who can enjoy the improved safety and recreational opportunities of the area.
The project has secured 1,118,555 Euros from European Union funds, managed by the Strategic Projects department under Carlos Tarife. This funding accounts for over 50% of the project’s total cost as part of the EU’s resilience strategy.
