Two individuals, approximately 60 years old as reported by the Security and Emergency Coordination Centre (CECOES) 1-1-2 of the Canary Islands Government, tragically drowned on Thursday at the well-known Boca Cangrejo cove in El Rosario, Tenerife.
The tragic event took place around 10:00 a.m. when CECOES received an alert about two individuals in distress in the sea, unable to make it back to the shore. Tenerife is under a yellow alert for high waves and a pre-alert for the same reason.
Local residents were able to rescue one of the men from the water, unconscious and showing signs of drowning. Despite efforts to resuscitate him by both locals and emergency services, including the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) and the Red Cross, they were unable to save him.
The Firefighters managed to rescue the other individual from the water, but unfortunately, resuscitation attempts were also unsuccessful despite immediate medical assistance.
Although the Helimer was dispatched to the scene, their intervention was not required as both victims had already been brought ashore.
Law enforcement authorities have launched the necessary investigations into the incident.
Boca Cangrejo is a popular spot among tourists due to its unique seaside houses adorned with colourful paintings, including hearts and other symbols, making it a sought-after destination for avid Instagram users.
