The committee overseeing the Acoustic Insulation Plan for Tenerife South airport conducted its second meeting, during which Aena announced the tender for projects aimed at enhancing soundproofing in over 900 homes near the aerodrome following the completion of necessary assessments.
Currently, there are 2,456 properties on the census for homes and structures designated for sensitive purposes under this plan, with a total of 1,127 requests for soundproofing received thus far. Aena has stated that as new requests come in and the need for improvement works is confirmed, new projects will be put out for tender.
In addition to Aena representatives, the coordination group includes members from the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, the State Aviation Safety Agency, the Government of the Canary Islands, the Cabildo of Tenerife, and the local councils of Arona, Granadilla de Abona, and San Miguel.
Aena emphasises that the interventions are focused on residences and structures designated for sensitive purposes (health, education, and culture) situated within the airport’s acoustic easement, defined by continuous sound levels of 60 decibels (morning), 60 (afternoon), and/or 50 (night), with construction permits approved prior to June 4, 2021.
