A hidden and unexplored bunker beneath Santa Cruz: Exploring a secret place in the capital for the first time

Despite being on an island where, theoretically, it is easier to know our surroundings due to the limited territory, Tenerife conceals many hidden places, with fascinating stories from both recent and distant pasts. Among them, are those related to the military environment.

In this regard, Santa Cruz stands out with many military remnants in the capital. Numerous well-known military buildings that were used in another era, and others that still remain in anonymity. A heritage that many people are unaware of and deserve to appreciate the work of those who reveal it.

Perhaps that’s why there are increasingly more ratatourians, as Ricardo Marichal has once again shown a new undiscovered space in Santa Cruz to all the followers of Ratatour. In this case, it is a bunker located beneath the ground of the capital, a place with a hidden purpose.

Several corridors and a military storage area

Equipped with a flashlight to see in the darkness that dominates every corner of the underground space, Ratatour encounters several corridors where the walls have endured the test of time. At the end of the main corridor, there is a rectangular room with a domed ceiling.

This room is surrounded by a corridor and has two small opposite windows. Cables can be seen around the walls that likely provided electricity in the past. After exploring the place, all indications point to it being an old arsenal where weapon ammunition was stored.

As Ricardo points out, there are various anchor points on the walls where different shelves could have been placed. Magazines can be classified as superficial, semi-buried, or underground, so the one found in Ratatour’s latest video can be included in the latter category.
