The Güímar City Council approved the memorandum and articles of association of the Güímar Public Company, SA, a state-owned company that will be responsible for street cleaning, waste collection and treatment, as well as the maintenance of municipal gardens and fountains. The proposal received support from the municipal government and abstention from the opposition.
The plenary agreement adopted yesterday, in an extraordinary session, marks the first step towards the establishment of the Güímar public company. With this council decision, “one of the current government’s goals is reinforced, which is to recover certain public services.” In this sense, the CC-PSOE-USP argues that “we are laying the groundwork for a change in cleaning and gardening services, always respecting and improving quality, which will involve strengthening the workforce.”
The local government led by Gustavo Pérez conveys that “we are convinced that this increase in employee welfare will have a positive impact on the streets, parks, and gardens of our municipality.” At the same time, the Güímar tripartite states that “making a decision of this nature, creating a public company, is not easy, but we understand that it is undoubtedly the best way to achieve the stated objectives and position our municipality at the highest level of the services we will assume once the commercial company is operational.”
The Güímar Public Company, SA, will be a “one hundred percent public” company that will “initially take on street cleaning, waste collection and treatment, as well as the maintenance of municipal gardens and fountains.” However, the goal is greater, as “the idea is that, over time, it will also take charge of other resources,” according to the municipal government.

The Plenary agreement is a decisive contribution to the goal set by the local agreement in its government programme. Thus, Coalition Canaria, the Socialist Party, and Together We Can express that their aim is “for the establishment of the company not to be delayed and to become a reality as soon as possible, so we also invite opposition groups to contribute to the subsequent steps that will complete this process.”
