SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 17 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Cabildo of Tenerife has announced the winners and finalists of the ‘XII Tenerife Fashion National Photography Contest’, which focused on fashion and makeup in this edition.

This year, a total of 33 photographers took part, and the victories went to Juan Pedro León Sánchez (Gran Canaria), who secured the first and third prizes, with the second prize being awarded to Manuel Jesús González Arteaga (La Gomera).

The judging panel also selected seven other images as finalists: Fabio di Pietro (Tenerife); Juan Pedro León Sánchez (Gran Canaria) as fifth, sixth, and seventh finalists; and Manuel Jesús González Arteaga (La Gomera) as the eighth finalist.

Additionally, Jhowny Ferreira Soalleiro (Girona) and Johan José Méndez Falcón (Barcelona) clinched the ninth and tenth finalist positions, respectively.

Efraín Medina, the Minister of Employment and Education, emphasized the high quality of the submissions for the competition, highlighting that “the aim is to foster and create synergies in the fashion and photography sectors, as they are industries that drive economic growth and employment opportunities.” He expressed satisfaction at the restoration of the competition’s national scope.

The ‘XII Tenerife Moda 2024 National Photography Contest’ includes three prizes.

The winning entry receives a prize of 3,500 euros and a commemorative trophy, while the second and third place winners will be awarded 2,500 and 1,500 euros, along with their respective trophies.

The judging criteria included elements such as the coherence between the theme, the narrative, and the message of the photograph; originality and creativity in the image’s concept; as well as the use of technical techniques, among others.

JURY

The jury panel consisted of Efraín Medina, Minister of Employment and Education; Francisco Javier Fernández Obregón, a Doctor of Journalism and associate professor at the University of La Laguna; Orlando Arocha Henríquez, head of the Image and Sound department at IES La Guancha; and Antonio Barbuzano, the creator of the poster for the Tenerife Fashion National Photography Contest.

Previous winners of the Tenerife Moda Photography and Fashion Contest, such as Alfonso Bravo, Airam Álvarez Abella, Gerardo Valido, Edgar Magdalena, Magdalena Pierwocha, Daniel Pérez, Héctor Amaro, Adrián C. Martín, Sergio Abreu, Javier Durán, Victoria Andreina Navarro, and Heike Monz from the Tenerife Fairgrounds, were also present.

The jury also included designers from the Tenerife Moda collective, such as Juan Carlos Armas, Marco Marrero (M&M), María Díaz (M&M), Marisa Velázquez (Bailoreiro), Sergio López (Amarca), and Ithaisa García (Amarca).

Moreover, this edition featured the participation of Paula Hernández Reyes (Proexca Foreign Promotion Technician), Javier López Díaz (Urban Zone Director of the Tenerife International Fashion Fair), Ricardo Cloguen (manager of the Insular Crafts Company), Luis Isbal Ruiz, and Alicia Pérez (technicians from the Tenerife Cabildo).

Additionally, Francisco Ballesteros (Comprehensive Design professor at CFGS), Fernando González (Photography professor at the Fernando Estévez School of Art and Design), Teresa Rodríguez (Personal Image professor at IES El Médano), and Dulce Rodríguez (advisor of the Sectoral Council of Traditional Clothing of Tenerife and folklorist), among others, also joined the lineup.
