The Helimer 206 helicopter rescued nine people on Monday from a canoe that was sinking 111 kilometres south of La Restinga, in El Hierro, as reported by Maritime Rescue to EFE.
The 15 to 20-metre long vessel was located by a tanker en route from Brazil to Cartagena, the Beskidy, which alerted the Spanish authorities that it was in a very compromised situation, semi-submerged.
Maritime Rescue promptly dispatched their rescue helicopter based in Tenerife, as well as two boats, the Salvamar Adhara and a patrol boat from the Civil Guard, to assist.
The shipwrecked individuals will be transported to El Hierro to receive the necessary medical attention.
