Participants of the Brother Pedro’s Path Route will walk the 19 kilometers between Vilaflor and the Cave located in El Médano (Granadilla de Abona) on the 20th. This year, it will include the variant that extends from the downtown of Chasna to Charco del Pino, after recovering a project about the old path that connected both municipalities. The action provides more security to the pilgrim by following a guided and uninterrupted path that runs through natural landscapes. The initiative also aims, in the short term, to create a touristic product around the figure of the first saint of Canary Islands.
The organization reminds that the registration period is open online on the municipal websites of Vilaflor and Granadilla de Abona, organizers of this 17th edition of the Brother Pedro’s Path Route, with the collaboration of AENA, Titsa, and volunteers from the religious space.
At the price of four Euros, a bus will depart from the Cave of Brother Pedro at 5:00 in the morning to Vilaflor square. At 6:00, a mass will be celebrated at the parish in downtown Chasna, and at 7:00, the Route is scheduled to start, with the arrival at the Cave planned for 1:00 in the afternoon. As an alternative, there is a route departing from the Convent in downtown Granadilla (9:30), the Chorro area in Charco del Pino (9:30), the square of the House of Culture in San Isidro (10:30), and the square in El Médano (11:30).
The Route starts at around 1,400 meters above sea level and covers 19 kilometers. During approximately five hours, the walker can enjoy elements of natural and cultural heritage, terraced fields, water channels, orchards, as well as unique flora including summit scrubland, pine forests, prickly pear scrubland, and coastal scrubland. Also, one can observe fauna of great interest throughout the journey. In addition to being a transhumance path, Brother Pedro’s Path is part of a set of traditional trails, some of which appear on historical maps from the 18th and 19th centuries. It is one of the routes that Brother Pedro travelled to move with his flock.

The origin of this initiative dates back to 2005, when the study began to recover and enhance the Brother Pedro’s Path and its surrounding trails. The challenge was to recover a symbol of collective memory that has endured to this day.
