The transfer of the footbridge to Padre Anchieta roundabout to take 8 hours: unveiling the plan

The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council and the Tenerife Island Council will implement a special operation on Thursday night for the transfer of the initial section of the Padre Anchieta pedestrian ring (La Laguna), with an expected duration of eight hours.

The arrival of this structure at the port of the capital is set for 10:00 p.m. on Thursday, marking the commencement of the transfer to La Laguna, planned to culminate around six in the morning, as detailed by the city council in a statement.

Weighing 10 tonnes, measuring over 30 meters in length, with a curved design, the said module will be transported using a 38-meter-long, 47-tonne truck.

The city council confirms that all necessary authorizations have been granted to facilitate the transfer of the structure, arriving in Tenerife from the port of Seville. This unprecedented event on the island has necessitated the assembly of a special transport operation by both sea and land.

The transfer will be accompanied by a police escort to ensure security and smooth operation, commencing from the Eastern Dock towards the Bufadero Service Route exit, along the port’s internal roadway.

Subsequently, the convoy will travel via the San Andrés highway before reaching the entrance to the Ingeniero Juan Amigó de Lara Tunnel.

Signallers will be included in the operation for the turning maneuver at Constitución Avenue and for those passing through the Tres de Mayo Glorieta – El Cabo.

Construction on this roundabout in La Laguna commenced in November 2021 with a budget of 8.8 million euros.

It involves a continuous curved circular beam of around 100 meters in diameter, supported by a specific support system, with an annexed square to the current car park of the Faculty of Biology at the University of La Laguna, measuring approximately 314 meters in length.

The goal of this future road infrastructure will be to alleviate congestion at one of the entry points to the Northern Highway (TF-5) and ensure the safety of pedestrians in the area.
