To refrain from entering the mountains and postpone outdoor activities, are the recommendations of the Council of Tenerife for this stormy weekend in the Canary Islands. The Council of Tenerife has preventively activated today (Friday 22) the Insular Emergency Plan of Tenerife (PEIN) due to the pre-alert declaration for rain, winds, snow in summit areas, storms, and coastal phenomena on the northern coast of the island issued by the General Directorate of Emergencies of the Canary Islands Government, applying the Specific Emergency Plan for Canary Islands for Risks of Adverse Meteorological Phenomena (PEFMA).
The decision is also made in accordance with the predictions by the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET), and the high uncertainty regarding the effects that the Isolated High-Level Depression (DANA) affecting the Archipelago during the weekend, with probable locally strong and intense precipitation and snow above 2,000 meters, accompanied by storms that will move across the archipelago from the west, and winds with intervals of strong and very strong, mainly in the summit areas, with gusts exceeding 70 kilometers per hour.
The preventive activation of the PEIN involves an explicit monitoring of the meteorological phenomenon, as well as ensuring that island resources and means are available in case their intervention is needed.
In this way, the various departments of the Council will suspend or postpone outdoor activities that were scheduled, especially those whose development coincides with the indicated areas or contexts. Likewise, island resources and means are on high alert in case their intervention is required.

The Council recommends that municipalities assess the adoption of preventive measures appropriate to the situation and advises the population to follow the self-protection instructions issued by the Civil Protection authorities, especially avoiding access to the summit areas of the island and outdoor activities.
