SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 23rd March (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Tenerife Cabildo has decided to block the route to the Teide National Park for vehicles using La Esperanza (TF-24) and La Orotava (TF-21) due to icy patches on the roadway.
This information was shared by the insular Corporation, specifying that TF-21 is closed from PK 16 (Aguamansa) to PK 43 (Teleferico), and on TF-24 it stretches from PK 24 (Los Loros crossing) to the end.
It is advised for the public to heed the self-protection guidelines issued by the Civil Protection authorities, particularly avoiding entry into the high-altitude areas of the island and participating in outdoor pursuits.
The Cabildo has proactively activated the Tenerife Island Emergency Plan (PEIN) on Friday as a precautionary measure due to the pre-alert for rain, wind, snow in elevated areas, storms, and coastal events on the northern coast of the island. This pre-alert was issued by the General Directorate of Emergencies of the Government of the Canary Islands, in line with the Specific Emergency Plan of the Canary Islands for Risks of Adverse Meteorological Phenomena (PEFMA).
The proactive activation involves the continuous monitoring of the weather phenomenon and the readiness of island resources and assets for possible intervention. This enables the island’s resources to be on standby in case an intervention is necessitated.
