SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 14th March (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Minister of Public Works, Housing and Mobility of the Government of the Canary Islands, Pablo Rodríguez, convened a meeting with the Provincial Federation of Construction Entities of Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Fepeco), headed by Óscar Izquierdo, to review the decree law on urgent measures concerning housing, as well as the essential actions that need to be pursued to stimulate property construction on the islands.
This gathering, part of a series of meetings organized by the Ministry across the archipelago, also saw attendance from the director of the Canary Islands Housing Institute, Antonio Ortega, and the coordinator of the team responsible for drafting the decree law on urgent measures in housing, Fran Villar.
The president of Fepeco stressed that this decree law offers “a chance to implement genuine, necessary, urgent, and paramount measures” in response to “the significant social demand” for homes on all the islands.
Óscar Izquierdo underlined the significance of cooperation among all parties involved in the construction process to “bring the highest number of homes to the market as swiftly as possible.” In this regard, he urged all social, economic, and political parties to guarantee housing rights for all.
Meanwhile, the minister assured that the Government of the Canary Islands is striving to “significantly transform housing policy” in the short and medium term. “We are fully conscious of the gravity of this situation and are implementing a range of measures to tackle it. The decree is one of them, but not the sole initiative, as we will continuously assess and address the situation by introducing as many measures as necessary,” he remarked.
Pablo Rodríguez elaborated that the decree law aims to not only accelerate public housing construction but also incentivize the private sector “to contribute to and engage in developing protected properties.”
