Cultural Agenda of La Laguna: all the plans for this weekend

THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 29

Event: Amakó – Lagoon Effect

Time: 20:00

Location: Leal Theater

The monthly event of the Laguna Effect cycle will feature the band Amakó, consisting of Ellen O, of German-Filipino descent, and Canarian Toñako Ixâh. They will be performing in a quartet format, expanding their musical scope while maintaining their blend of funk, neo soul, reggae, and rumba styles.

FRIDAY, MARCH 1

Chamber Opera: ‘Lazarillo’

Time: 19:00

Location: Leal Theater

The Madrid-based company Teatro Xtremo presents ‘Lazarillo de La Laguna’, the latest opera by National Music Award winner David del Puerto. With a libretto by journalist Martín Llade, the opera portrays an adult Lázaro de Tormes reminiscing about his tough childhood.

SATURDAY, MARCH 2

Soplo de Letras Festival – ‘The mothers say’

Time: 19:30

Location: Leal Theater

The Soplo de Letras festival is hosting ‘Dicen las madres’ by Alejandro Palomas at the Teatro Leal. Palomas will take the audience on an intimate journey through his memories and the sense of helplessness following his mother’s passing in a poetic monologue.

SUNDAY, MARCH 3

Bianca Kovacs: ‘A very legal Romanian’

Time: 19:00

Location: Leal Theater

Romanian comedian Bianca Kovacs presents her show ‘A Very Legal Romanian’, addressing the prejudices she encounters and aiming to provide a different perspective on everyday life. With a successful career as an actress, currently hosting Las Noches del Club de la Comedia in the theatre, Kovacs will compare the societal biases with the actual truths.

ONGOING UNTIL MARCH 6

Exhibition: ‘Traditional Carnivals of the Canary Islands’

Date: February 8 to March 6

Timing: Monday to Friday – 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.; Saturday – 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Location: Convent of Santo Domingo

As part of the Cultural Carnival, the Convent of Santo Domingo is showcasing an exhibition by documentary photographer Juan Agustín Pérez Pérez, Tingo, to uphold the tradition of the Canary Islands carnivals.
