SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 26th Feb (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Council of Tenerife has begun improvement and rehabilitation works on the TF-662 road in Arona, starting at 7:00 a.m. this Tuesday, lasting until 24th April. The investment for these works amounts to £1.3 million.
This road runs parallel to the TF-1 Highway on the mountain side, with access from the TF-66 near the Guaza interchange, leading to the TF-655.
The works are divided into two sections: the first section between Guaza and the gas station, PPKK 0+000 to 2+177, while the second section extends from the gas station to PPKK 2+177 to 2+314.
Minister of Highways, Dámaso Arteaga, emphasized that the intervention has a budget of £1.3 million and will involve the complete rehabilitation of the road surface and wearing course.
“Depending on the location of the surface drainage works, the cuts will be managed with alternative detours, and information personnel will be available at the site of the cuts. We urge road users to exercise maximum caution,” Arteaga stated.
The upgrade of TF-662’s surface contributes to the Council’s efforts to enhance safety conditions and transportation on the island’s roads.
Additionally, there are ongoing pavement rehabilitation works and comprehensive safety improvements for the TF-652 and TF-653 roads at a cost of £2 million.
Furthermore, the 2024 budget includes £4.2 million for rehabilitation works on 16 roads, bypasses, and intersections, with an additional £34.8 million allocated for road improvement projects like the TF-12 in Anaga, TF-1 road surface rehabilitation, and the Padre Anchieta walkway.
The rehabilitation of Tenerife’s roads aligns with the broader strategy to enhance the island’s mobility, complementing measures such as the restriction of heavy vehicle traffic during peak hours, reinforced public transport through fleet upgrades and driver recruitment, reduced free transportation thresholds, the Sustainable Mobility Plan, and partnerships with Ashotel and the University of La Laguna, among other initiatives.
