Today, the La Laguna Cultural Carnival is bustling with music, sports, and leisure activities across the city. A diverse crowd has gathered to partake in this vibrant day filled with musical performances, parades, family events, and carnival groups.

Leticia Villegas, the Councilor for Culture of the La Laguna City Council, praised the enthusiastic participation in the morning events, echoing the success of yesterday’s parade and the Inclusive Carnival. This success was made possible by the dedicated efforts of the Social Welfare and Quality of Life Area, led by Councilor María Cruz, who orchestrated the coordination and participation of various groups.

The Plaza del Cristo has been the focal point of the carnival celebrations in La Laguna since early morning, offering family-oriented experiences and activities with a special focus on the children. The day was filled with dance performances by local children’s groups, troupes, and other community entities from La Laguna, who have gained recognition for their performances in the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnival 2024 competitions and galas.

In the afternoon, the Plaza del Cristo will host the Cultural Carnival Race, attracting numerous participants who will showcase their costumes and accessories before embarking on the race. Children will kick off the festivities at 6:00 p.m., followed by adults half an hour later. The event is organized by the Autonomous Sports Organization, under the direction of councilor Badel Albelo.

The climax of the day will be the Great Mask Ball starting at 8:00 p.m., featuring various orchestras paying tribute to iconic musical figures of the carnival such as Celia Cruz, Frankie Ruiz, and Juan Luis Guerra.

The 2024 Cultural Carnival will draw to a close on Sunday, February 25, with the event ‘Dancing Mascaritas like our elders’. Led by historian Néstor Verona and folklorist Dulce Rodríguez, the event offers a historical tour of La Laguna to showcase traditional carnival dances and celebrate the cultural heritage of the Guarache party.
