SAN SEBASTIÁN DE LA GOMERA, 24th February (EUROPA PRESS) –
La Gomera Tourism participated in the ‘Fiets en Wandelbeurs’ exhibition held in Utrecht, Netherlands, to present the island as a tourist hotspot.
Stating that it is the premier event in the country for cycling and hiking enthusiasts, the spokesperson for the island council, María Isabel Méndez, highlighted the island’s aim to establish itself as a prime destination for tourists interested in outdoor sports.
La Gomera had its designated promotional area situated at the Turespaña booth during the event, which took place at the expansive Jaarbeurs exhibition grounds, one of the largest in the Netherlands.
“The fair draws a plethora of individuals fitting the ideal tourist profile for La Gomera, nature enthusiasts who utilise their holidays for outdoor pursuits like hiking, cycling, bird watching, and whale spotting,” she elaborated.
The island boasts an extensive network of trails spanning nearly 650 square kilometers of mountainous and coastal paths, elevating its status as one of Europe’s top hiking destinations.
Additionally, it offers designated cycling routes equipped with informational signage and directional markers to cater to cycling enthusiasts.
“The island’s natural charm remains its primary allure for visitors,” stressed Méndez, “therefore, we are dedicated to enhancing our tourism offerings to boost our competitiveness as a destination, evident in the development of six new tourist experiences we are actively crafting, with some focusing on highlighting trails known for their ethnographic and archaeological significance. “
