SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 23rd February (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Canary Islands’ Parliament President, Astrid Pérez, welcomed a visit on Friday from a delegation of Members of the European Parliament. The group included the former Chamber President Gabriel Mato, Andrey Novakov from Bulgaria, Stanislav Polcák from the Czech Republic, Inese Vaidere from Latvia, and the Spanish MEP Leopoldo Lopez.
The delegation is currently on the islands to learn more about the European Cohesion Funds allocated to the archipelago.
MEP Mato stated, “We aim to showcase in Europe the beneficial effects provided by European funds, such as the European Social Fund and the Feder, towards fostering cohesion in regions like the Canary Islands.”
Following a meeting with President Pérez, the MEPs signed the Parliament’s Book of Honour.
Subsequently, they toured some of the most significant chambers in the building, including the Plenary Hall and the Presidents’ Hall.
The MEPs, affiliated with the Popular Cohesion Group, have spent these days immersing themselves in the reality of an outermost region like the Canary Islands, where the European Union’s assistance plays a crucial role in its economic and social progress, as per a statement from the parliament.
