On Saturday night, the Cariocas troupe emerged victorious, claiming the first prize at the Rhythm and Harmony contest held on Francisco La Roche and Marítima avenues, where a total of nine groups took part. Earlier, the troupe had secured the second prize for Interpretation in a separate contest held at the Fairgrounds on the 3rd.
In addition, Tropicana took home the second prize for Rhythm and Harmony (having placed third at the Fairgrounds), while Joroperos, the winners of the contest at the Fairgrounds, clinched the third prize. Meanwhile, Bahía Bahitiare secured the second place, and the Tabajaras troupe was awarded for best banner.
A large crowd watched the parade from the sidewalks, terraces, and stands near the Plaza de España, as the nine groups showcased their best choreographies to the infectious beat of the batucada, along with the Queen of Carnival 2024, Corina Mrazek González, her Court of Honor, and other gala participants.
The parade kicked off with the children’s troupes of Joroperos and Tropicana, and came to a close with Los Cumbacheros of Lanzarote.
The spectacle was broadcasted regionally, nationally, and internationally by RTVC and RTVE, with Laura Afonso and Roberto Herrera serving as presenters and commentators, reporting on the traditional route of the contest.
