He Arona Town Hallthrough the Department of Public Services, Environment and Sustainability, carried out an extensive cleaning operation in the early hours of Monday, January 1, once the New Year commemoration celebrations were over.

The cleaning services acted in the places with the greatest influx of people. Thus, a mechanical sweep and washing was carried out in the area of the two stages where the concerts of the Canarian orchestras and DJs were held; The parks of the Los Cristianos Cultural Center were washed; the sweeping of bus stops; the washing of the Plaza de los Cristianos y los Playaros; the sweeping of Paseo Pérez Valero and washing of the benches in Plaza Pedro García Cabrera; as well as a reinforcement in garbage collection in different points of Los Cristianos.

Fátima Lemes, mayor of Arona, stated that “we are on the path to improving public services, especially cleaning, which still receive some incidents, but we are on the right track and this is one of the actions that demonstrate the great efforts that have been made.” “They do to keep the municipality clean and return to normality as soon as possible.”

On January 1, one hundred workers were mobilized in two shifts: 87 for the night and day, plus 13 people in the afternoon, who reviewed all the areas. The operation collected 177,100 kilos, of which 170,940 correspond to municipal solid waste (MSW) and 6,160 kilos of packaging.

Clari Pérez, first deputy mayor of the Arona City Council and councilor for Public Services, Environment and Sustainability, highlighted that “the work of the cleaning area has been commendable because these are festivals with a large accumulation of public, which generate important quantities of garbage and waste. Even so, we want to highlight the great work done to ensure that the streets were clean as quickly as possible.”

The Public Services area has also prepared a special cleaning device on the occasion of the Parade of Their Majesties the Kings of the East, scheduled for next Friday; as well as for the morning of January 6, in which the aroneros will open the gifts that Melchor, Gaspar and Baltasar have brought them.
