The Granadilla de Abona City Council is aware that the declaration of the Tenerife South airport as a sensitive area could become a melon that is difficult to digest for the Tenerife Council once it is opened, due to the breadth of fronts that could be presented in different municipalities with very diverse interests.
However, the municipal government wants to protect or, at least, reinforce the professionals who make up the taxi sector, which is why on December 18 it presented allegations to the service provision protocol in this infrastructure that the island corporation had submitted.
The objections of the City Council, whose government is made up of a pact between PSOE and PP, were registered only one day before the sector itself did so through the Autotaxis Association.
In them, the municipality asks the Council to eliminate references to the declaration of a sensitive area, remembering that this was unanimously rejected by all political groups in a plenary session that was held on November 30, in addition to by the professional association itself. .
The City Council also rejects the outsourcing of the position of stop manager, demanding that it be occupied by a professional from the municipality, also remembering that the regulations of the autotaxi organization already contemplate a disciplinary regime in in the event that the leadership does not fulfill its functions in accordance with the regulations that are approved.
It must be remembered that this position is key in the provision of the service, since it is up to the person who occupies it to decide when taxis from municipalities other than those of Granadilla and San Miguel de Abona can operate. To this end, the municipal allegations state that “the figure of the stop manager will be designated by the Granadilla de Abona Taxi Association in the same terms in which it is already operating currently.”
On the other hand, the Corporation considers it essential that the waiting time for taxi applicants is 20 minutes to allow taxis from other municipalities to pick up customers, always “in strict order of arrival, when there are no taxis from Granadilla de Abona.” and San Miguel de Abona, which will have preference in collection,” according to the text of the allegations.
This also contemplates that it is prohibited to pick up clients outside the areas authorized for this purpose.
