The Cabildo of Tenerife activates the Island Emergency Plan and asks not to climb the mountain affected by the fire this Sunday



The Cabildo of Tenerife has reported this Saturday that it has activated, in a preventive manner, the Island Emergency Plan (PEIN) for this Sunday, the 17th, due to the wind alert declared by the Security and Emergencies Directorate of the Government of the Canary Islands and asks the population not to climb the mountain that was affected by the fire last summer. This preventive activation is carried out to “ensure the safety of the population”, taking into account the level of prevention that is accompanied by the alert declaration, explains the corporation.

The prediction made by the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) for this Sunday foresees gusts of wind that will probably reach or exceed 80 km/h, without ruling out specific gusts of 90-100 km/h due to the relief, so the DGSE of the Government of the Canary Islands has decreed a wind alert in the municipalities of Puerto de la Cruz, La Orotava, Santa Úrsula, La Victoria, La Matanza, El Sauzal, Tacoronte, Tegueste, La Laguna, Santa Cruz de Tenerife and El Rosario. The rest of the municipalities on the island of Tenerife will remain in a pre-alert situation.

Given this situation, the Cabildo recommends that the population not access the forest area of ​​the affected municipalities of Güímar, Arafo, Candelaria, El Rosario, Tacoronte, El Sauzal, La Matanza de Acentejo, La Victoria de Acentejo, Santa Úrsula and La Orotava. due to the forest fire last August due to the risk of falling trees, branches and landslides.

The preventive activation of the PEIN implies express monitoring of the meteorological phenomenon, as well as making the island’s means and resources available if its intervention is required.
