The Santa Cruz City Council, through the decree of the Councilor for Security, Gladis de León, has proceeded to activation of the Municipal Emergency Plan (PEMU) and the suspension of all municipal outdoor activities from 00:00 this Sunday. This decision is based on the alert decree issued by the General Directorate of Emergencies of the Government of the Canary Islands, before the the arrival of strong winds is foreseeable that are expected throughout Sunday.
The municipal decision also extends to closure of municipal outdoor facilitieswhether sports (sports centers, municipal swimming pools, sports fields, etc.), cultural, educational, and any other leisure and recreation, among which are, in addition to Rastro, the markets located in Alameda del Duque de Santa Elena. By extension, any leisure, sports, cultural or similar activity that, taking place outdoors, involves the influx of the public and that was scheduled to start at 00:00 tomorrow is suspended.
Given the expected arrival of this adverse meteorological phenomenon, the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council began to adopt preventive measures, from early in the afternoon, and activated the Municipal Emergency Plan (PEMU) to face the possible risks derived from the wind in different parts of the city. One of these measures has been to order the closure and marking of several areas from García Sanabria park; from the squares of San Francisco and Príncipe; from other wooded places such as the Leoncio Oramas parks; Secundino Delgado; La Estrella, Manuel Castañeda and El Timple. Access to the capital’s Las Mesas park is also prohibited.
In addition, the different municipal services are already proceeding, as of this afternoon, to carry out work to secure the different elements of Christmas decoration distributed throughout the city, as well as the rest of the objects that may be susceptible to damage due to the strong gusts of wind that are expected in the metropolitan area.
Call for responsibility
The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council calls on citizens to do not expose yourself to the risks that the expected gusts of wind could cause. Likewise, it is remembered that as a self-protection measure all unnecessary trips are avoided during the Sunday day. It is also important to secure or remove awnings, flower pots and other elements that may fall onto public roads or other homes from windows and balconies.
Likewise, the capital City Council requests the different promoters of private activities to adopt the same measures promoted by the council, thus avoiding unnecessary risks in light of the alert decreed by the Government of the Canary Islands.
The Santacrucero City Council reminds us that from the Twitter profiles of the @CECOPALSC @PoliciaLocalSC and @ProteCivilSCTF Information of interest on possible incidents and self-protection will be offered. At the same time, it is remembered that the telephone numbers to communicate any contingency are 092 and 112.
