The mayor of Los Realejos, Adolfo Gonzalezannounced that the municipal budget proposal for the next year contemplates an increase of 86.41% in the items allocated to voluntary groups of emergencies local, that is, Firefighters Volunteers and Civil Protection. They will have the largest amount allocated so far, 108,000 euros, which they will receive in direct aid and improvements in the municipal area of Security and Emergencies.
González stressed that the measure is part of “the clear commitment of the government group to improve municipal resources that are allocated to face emergency situations.” He recalled that “in recent years we have faced difficult episodes related to the fire in our mountain, in which many neighbors have been directly affected, and others events for which we want to be much better prepared in the immediate future.
To this end, the royal councilor recognized that “these two volunteer associations have had and have a vital, fundamental and leading role, being the first time that the City Council has allocated so many economic resources for this purpose.”
One of the largest percentage increases in the 2024 municipal budget corresponds to the financing of Civil Protection and Volunteer Firefighters, “a commitment that I made with their representatives,” with whom he held a meeting. This money will enable notable improvements to their equipment, telecommunications and vehicles, “as they have expressed to us and we have agreed with them,” explained Adolfo González.
The City Council of Los Realejos adds this financial contribution from the Consistory to the already consolidated nominative subsidies received by Civil Protection and Volunteer Firefighters for operating and leasing expenses. “two new direct help lines so that, once the respective files have been processed at the beginning of the year, they can have everything they need in terms of equipment for the next summer campaign.”
New work and protection equipment, tools and telecommunications systems with stations with better features are some of the requests from real emergency volunteers that are expected to be satisfied with these items, as well as a motorcycle requested by Civil Protection, which is added to the van acquired at the end of last year, in addition to a new vehicle that the Los Realejos Volunteer Firefighters will have in 2024.
The Councilor for Security and Emergencies, Carolina Toste, highlighted “the always attentive and predisposed attitude of the volunteers, both from Civil Protection and the Firefighters of our municipality.” She thus alluded to the fact that “they participate in multiple preventive measures, are present at events and attend to emergency situations in our municipality, an altruistic work that complements in a coordinated manner the professional task of our Local police».
