Taxi drivers from other municipalities other than Granadilla de Abona and San Miguel -especially those from Arona and Adeje- will be able to charge fares in the Tenerife South airport at peak times, those when the demand for taxi drivers is greater than the number at the stop.

That was the proposal that the taxi drivers associations of Granadilla de Abona and San Miguel, together with the Canary Islands Taxi Federation (Fedetax) today took them to the meeting called by the Cabildo, which was not attended by the municipal councilor of Granadilla, Jennifer Miranda, but by the councilor of San Miguel, Arturo González, although in principle he only attended the Insular Corporation for a presentation of a trade fair. craft.

Rosa Dávila, island president, thanked the taxi drivers’ associations for their willingness to reach an agreement and appreciated that “they have come with a sensible proposal to improve public service in a supra-municipal and sensitive area like the airport,” insisting that ” It is up to the Cabildo to declare that area as a sensitive area, as regulated by legal certainty,” adding that “now it is about urgently making a regulation of this special regime that guarantees the survival of the families that live off taxis in Granadilla and San Miguel, but also that those queues of tourists and visitors at our largest airport are not repeated,” said the president.

To develop this regulation, the Cabildo “will require AENA to update the information at all times, to meet the demand for taxis.”

Juan Artiles, from Fedetax, commented that “taxis from other municipalities will be able to charge fares when they bring passengers to the airport, but only in exceptional cases, and for this there will be a stop manager who organizes the trips,” highlighting that “the solution that is has taken, while waiting for the regulation that the Cabildo jurists make through emergencies, is good for everyone, because it is about what we do today not becoming a problem tomorrow, as has happened in other airports.
