The Cabildo of Tenerife has signed a collaboration agreement with the University of La Laguna (ULL) to improve mobility on the island.
The document was signed this Thursday in an event held in the Rector’s Board Room that was attended by the president of the Cabildo, Rosa Dávila; the rector of the University of La Laguna, Francisco Javier García; the manager of the ULL, María Teresa Covisa and the Minister of Mobility, Eulalia García.
After the signing, Rosa Dávila valued the importance of the agreement since the university community is “a strategic ally in the fight against traffic jams and in promoting sustainable mobility.”
In this sense, the president of the Cabildo indicated that by virtue of the protocol the island corporation is committed to promoting and supporting research on mobility to develop suitable solutions on the island and supporting actions regarding dissemination and promotion. of sustainable mobility on the island, especially among the university public as a whole and the adaptation of the TEN+VAO application to facilitate the use of shared vehicles by the university community.
For his part, the rector of the ULL, Francisco Javier García, thanked the Cabildo for the effort and highlighted the importance of joining with a first-rate collaborating entity “to put one more drop in the sea that must be the solution to the problems.” traffic problems in Tenerife”.
At this point, García recalled the existence of a Mobility Plan carried out by the ULL and the analysis of the possible staggering of the schedules of both students and Administration and Services Personnel (PAS).
Under the signed agreement, the University of La Laguna is committed to the design and implementation of educational programs in sustainable mobility; integration of sustainable mobility concepts in academic programs, raising awareness among students about their importance in generating their social commitment and the study and establishment, where appropriate, of measures aimed at decongesting the use of parking lots on the different campuses, among others. measures.
SUCCESS OF THE SHUTTLE BUS
On the other hand, both the president of the Cabildo and the rector of the ULL highlighted the success of the two university shuttle buses from Los Realejos and Icod, a measure recently implemented by the Insular Mobility Area.
“The shuttle buses have been a success. During the first week, along with the reinforcements, some 50,000 users used them and the second week there were more than 60,000 people who used public transport and the students have valued being able to have direct buses without transfers to be able to go directly to the university campuses,” explained Rosa Dávila.
Along the same lines, the rector, Francisco Javier García, thanked the installation of the shuttles.
“This initiative is being a success and we all have to congratulate ourselves for this idea that facilitates and strengthens a system of access to the university campus directly from the North that allows university students to come in sustainable, collective and future transportation,” he indicated.
