SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Nov. 14 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Manolo Blahnik Art School located in Santa Cruz de La Palma leads the innovation project ‘Renacer de las Cenizas’, which investigates the possibilities of treating the ashes generated on the island after the recent volcanic eruption, converting this byproduct into a useful biomaterial for the manufacture of jewelry and fashion accessories.
The project, in which the prestigious jewelry company TOUS, the IES Politécnico de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) also participate, will soon be officially presented.
‘Reborn from the Ashes’ promotes chemical research in the creation of sustainable solid materials to apply them to original designs of final products that can be marketed and reduce the consumption of other products that are less respectful of the environment.
The initiative is financed by the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training, Physical Activity and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands, directed by Poli Suárez, through the General Directorate of Vocational Training and Special Regime Education.
In addition, and specifically, it has the participation of the Training Cycles of Artistic Jewelry Procedures and Clothing Modeling of the Manolo Blahnik Art School, as well as the Training Cycles of Laboratory Operations, Laboratory of Analysis and Quality Control and Industrial Chemistry from the IES Polytechnic of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
Finally, the proposal has the support of Isla Bonita Moda as a tool to promote the distribution of accessories and jewelry that are developed within the framework of the project and to organize the internships of the School’s students in firms linked to the Association Creators of Fashion from Spain (ACME).
