Yesterday, the plenary session of La Laguna unanimously approved prioritizing the rehabilitation project for Plaza del Adelantado, based on a CC motion with an amendment from the local government (PSOE). Specifically, the Councilor for Heritage, Adolfo Cordobés, later explained that “the intention is to include an item in the 2024 budgets to begin studying how to write that project”, for which the how has not yet been defined, if at all through a contest of ideas or through another formula, he noted, although he stressed that “the opinion of the neighbors will be very important.”

A project in which, in addition, it will have to be taken into account that the Plaza del Adelantado “is at a point where other interventions are going to be carried out, such as the channeling of the La Carnicería ravine and the future Market, so the projects must be combined so that they come out in coordination,” added the mayor.

The agreed motion also includes starting the search for financing with other administrations to guarantee the budget sheet that allows for a quicker bidding and execution of the project.

Meanwhile, maintenance actions will be carried out in the space. In this regard, Cordobés explained that “the roots of the trees are causing some problems, and from the Works area we are going to make a plan to make recesses in the bulging areas and keep the plaza in the best possible condition until it is resolved.” “he can begin his rehabilitation.”

The motion included an intervention by the president of the Casco Neighborhood Association, Pablo Reyes, who asked that “citizens be counted on and a process be opened to contribute ideas to the project.”

PGO

On the other hand, the plenary session also unanimously approved an agreement so that “citizen participation is guaranteed and promoted in the drafting of the future PGO.” In this regard, the plenary session “agrees to hold informative and participatory meetings in towns and neighborhoods, convened in an open and public manner to receive the maximum possible contributions.”

This was agreed upon by all the parties based on a motion by Unidas se puede, Drago Verdes Canarias and the PP, with an amendment from the local government (PSOE), and which included four interventions by neighborhood representatives who demanded greater participation in the current third phase of the action plan of the sustainable development model of La Laguna, starting point of the future PGO.

In this regard, the councilor director of the Urban Planning Management, Adolfo Cordobés, recalled that “the study of what city model we want is a starting point to then be able to contract the drafting of the PGO, which is where they really go. to make the final decisions.”

And he pointed out that at the current time of the study “there are going to be two more phases of citizen participation, one now in the presentation of the model (20 and 28 of this month), and with respect to the action plan, on January 16 and 23 ”. “I reiterate that this development model is going to be the starting point and, of course, it is the intention of this Corporation that in the future development of the PGO participation is maximum to reach maximum consensus. This City Council cannot afford another legislature without a PGO that provides legal security to all citizens and makes socioeconomic development possible,” he emphasized.

Likewise, the approved agreement includes “the political commitment to defend the problems of various kinds that many areas of the municipality have, applying the planning instruments that are necessary”, as well as that “in the drafting of the future PGO the diagnosis of rural areas, in the same way as with urban areas.” Furthermore, we must “study the possibility, from the Urban Planning Management, of proposing work tables or sessions, outside the already existing contract, participated and in person for contributions and/or actions to the future PGO.”

On the other hand, the plenary session also unanimously approved a motion from the local government to present the City Council’s candidacy for the Queen Letizia National Disability Awards, in the categories of Accessibility and universal design in municipalities and Gender equality and the eradication of violence. against women and girls with disabilities. The mayor, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, stressed “the pride it is for our municipality to aspire to these two recognitions.”

Likewise, in the questions section, when asked about what actions the City Council plans to take, or is doing, for the full recovery of the public space of Charco la Arena, Adolfo Cordobés responded that “the judicial procedure is completed pending the issue a sentence by the National Court, a procedure in which this City Council has appeared as an interested party.”

Bike rental

Regarding the status of the processing of the public bicycle rental service project, the Councilor for Mobility, Cristina Ledesma, announced that “the subsidy will have to be returned”, of 720,000 euros and granted by the Canarian Government to the first phase, “since in this mandate we have discovered that there has been little work in terms of drafting the specifications.”

“At the time of exhausting the last avenue, we proposed to Segulpa that with the time we had left, taking into account that an extension had been requested at the end of the last mandate, to consider whether to accept it or not, and Segulpa tells us, given the experience he has, which is unfeasible,” he explained.
