The council of Environment of the Arona City Council looking for volunteers to form the Environmental Patrol Help the Cory’s Shearwaters reach the sea. With the motto Join Cinderella Night 2023, The main objective of the aronera corporation is to rescue injured seabirds in areas of greater risk due to excessive lighting.
Cinderella’s Shearwater has become key to raising awareness of the population in terms of defense and conservation of biodiversity. This species, common on all the islands, takes its first flight towards the sea between the months of October and November.
The growing urbanization on the coast has affected their habitat and has caused that when they undertake that first flight, at night and guided by the stars, they confuse the lighting of houses, streets and buildings, and collide by accident, falling to the ground from where they cannot. They can take flight again.
The activity is divided into two days, one night and one day. The Night Environmental Patrol has as its epicenter Paseo Las Vistas, in Los Cristianos, where it will carry out its activity this Friday, 6:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.s. One day later, the Daytime Shearwater Release will take place. In this case, from Costa del Silencio, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. this Saturday.
