SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE 10 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –
On Wednesday, the Cabildo of Tenerife commenced work on the direct lanes in the Güímar Industrial Park to eliminate the traffic congestion affecting over 48,000 motorists.
The president of the Cabildo of Tenerife, Rosa Dávila, along with the insular Minister of Mobility, Eulalia García, attended the initiation of the construction works for the direct lanes in the Güímar Industrial Estate.
This initiative, featuring an investment of €2.9 million and a construction timeframe of 14 months, aims to alleviate congestion at one of the critical traffic points in the region, where more than 48,000 vehicles traverse daily.
Among those present during the visit were the mayor of Arafo, Juan Ramón Martín; the mayor of Güímar, Gustavo Pérez; the interim mayor of Candelaria, Jorge Baute; and the president of the Polígono, Ramón Brinquis.
Rosa Dávila emphasised that this initiative forms part of a comprehensive strategy by the Cabildo to enhance mobility in the island’s industrial areas in response to a long-standing need.
“This project will enable us to considerably reduce traffic congestion and improve traffic flow, thereby making access to industrial estates more efficient and safer for businesses and local residents,” the president highlighted.
With these efforts, she stated, “we are addressing a historic demand and facilitating the daily routines of countless drivers who rely on this route.”
The Minister of Mobility, Eulalia García, elaborated on the technical specifics of the project, which entails the construction of several direct lanes and the enlargement of roundabouts to mitigate the current traffic burden on the two main roundabouts of the Güímar Industrial Estate.
“These measures are vital for easing access and optimising travel times, benefiting both freight transport and users of the TF-1,” García remarked.
Juan Ramón Martín indicated that “these developments will positively impact all residents of Arafo as it addresses a historical requirement, which is now becoming a reality, easing traffic congestion.”
Gustavo Pérez underlined the significance of the work “for the entire region and the logistics of the industrial estate; it will undoubtedly provide a solution that enhances mobility in a key hub of Tenerife.”
Jorge Baute expressed gratitude for this initiative, thanking the Cabildo for fulfilling the requests of the Valley municipalities and voiced his anticipation for the completion of the Lomo del Caballo Bridge, which will greatly improve traffic entering the municipality, offering another direct access to the Polígono of Güímar, as well as facilitating the development of the Lomo del Caballo Industrial Estate with its own entry point.
SUPPORT FROM THE BUSINESS COMMUNITY OF THE GÜÍMAR POLYGON
The president of the entrepreneurs of the Güímar Industrial Estate, Ramón Brinquis, conveyed his approval regarding the commencement of the works.
“We had been advocating for this since the traffic jams posed a significant issue, and this work could resolve the mobility challenges within the industrial estate. We appreciate the Cabildo of Tenerife for executing the project swiftly, from tendering to getting it underway,” he elaborated.
The project will focus on one of the routes that see the highest volume of vehicle traffic in Tenerife’s industrial estates.
The aim of this operation is to alleviate the traffic load on the two roundabouts situated at the junction of the Industrial Estate by providing direct lanes and expanding the roundabouts.
The work will involve modifying the branches and constructing two direct links that will enhance the safety and comfort of access to and from this area while addressing existing traffic congestion that affects industrial activity.
Efforts will concentrate on the Arafo interchanges, where several direct lanes will be created: one lane from TF-281 to TF-1 heading south; another lane from the TF-1 (Santa Cruz) towards the El Carretón Industrial Estate; two lanes from the Polígono Valle de Güímar to the TF-1 towards Santa Cruz; and one lane from the TF-1 southbound to the Polígono.
