He Town Hall of the Town of La Orotava plans to approve in the ordinary plenary session that will be held tomorrow, the repeal of the Fiscal Ordinance regulating the fee for occupation of land for public use with tables and chairs for lucrative purposes and installation of kiosks. Therefore, from now on, the bars, cafes and restaurants of the municipality can have a terrace on public roads, when it is feasible, and they do not have to pay anything for it.

The proposal has been unanimously approved by the different political groups that make up the municipal Corporation, at the spokespersons’ meeting held last Friday, so support is estimated in the plenary session. The measure will come into force in January 2024, the City Council reported.

The mayor, Francisco Linares, valued the support and commitment of the entire municipal Corporation, as occurred during the last term with the situation generated by the global pandemic, as they are policies and actions aimed at helping local businessmen and contributing to strengthen the local economy. From the City Council they highlighted that many terraces on public roads emerged just on that date thanks to the support of the local Council and thus avoid the closure of many businesses, since the hospitality industry was one of the sectors that received the direct impact of the pandemic and many They still suffer from it.

Felipe David Benítez, head of the local Treasury and spokesperson for the government group, stressed the importance of eliminating this rate, since this addresses the proposals and demands of the self-employed and businessmen of the municipality in order to reduce the tax burden on the complex situation of the economy in general, in addition to helping entrepreneurs and achieving greater bureaucratic simplification.

The elimination of this payment will benefit numerous establishments with terraces located in the Villa, and those that may open in the coming years will be added, which will also benefit from this decision that will be implemented starting in January of next year.

On the other hand, and no less important, they recalled that La Orotava also has regulatory regulations to homogenize the image of all the terraces of cafes and restaurants in the municipality. Some requirements must be met regarding tables, chairs, platforms, awnings, planters and parasols.

The establishments can benefit from two different models depending on the location of the terrace: one for the historic complex and the Commercial Area declared a High Tourist Influx, and another for the rest of the municipality. In this way, a good coexistence is guaranteed between the occupation of public domain and use spaces by establishments and services related to restaurants, hospitality, leisure and the usual life of urban roads.
