He La Laguna City Councilthrough the Department of Works and Infrastructurehas started this week the work on the pedestrianization project of the central Juan de Vera streetin the section located between the intersections with the streets of San Agustín and Anchieta.

The mayor of La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, clarified that these works will last three months and will have a pbudget of 210,515 euros. “Once we complete this process, La Laguna will gain a new space with the advantages that come with its full pedestrianization, exalting the virtues that have made this city the only one in the Canary Islands with the title of Historical Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO”.

The Lagunero councilor responsible for Works and Infrastructure, Adolfo Cordobés, added that “this project will benefit the citizens of the island and the many visitors who pass through the city center every day and, at the same time, the commercial and restoration that have been carrying out their activity on this road without traffic for several years now.”

Cordobés asked for understanding and apologies in advance to the merchants, neighbors and users of the Municipal Public Library of La Laguna ‘Adrián Alemán de Armas’ for the inconvenience derived from these interventions.

The materials chosen for this pedestrianization will be similar to those used throughout the historic center, giving continuity to the image of the most emblematic streets of La Laguna. In addition, these works will be used to bury the pipes of all the services that are currently in the area (lighting, telephone or low voltage) and the work will be crowned with perimeter sidewalks in accordance with pedestrian traffic.
