The mayor of Candelaria, Mari Brito, announced on Onda Tenerife that the prices of waste collection fees (commonly called garbage receipt) and drinking water will increase. The latter will be raised in 2014, “after seven years without doing so,” while the former is pending formalization of a new ordinance and the new concession competition finally going forward, the draft of which includes “an expense of one million euros.” more per year”, with respect to the current one extended with the Urbaser company.
Brito recognizes that “the waste service is clearly deficient, despite the great work of Urbaser workers.” Likewise, he advanced that “next year we have to face the new circular economy rate that is imposed at the national level and that in our community the Government of the Canary Islands will have an impact on the town councils, and these, logically, on the citizens”, apart of the well-known tax for the treatment of waste that the Cabildo of Tenerife charges the councils, which will increase this year after the new management tender approved by the Cabildo for the Arico Environmental Complex.
Yesterday, the socialist counselor Javier Rodríguez, in charge of the matter in the last term, assured that “the increase should not be assumed by the city councils until December 2025.” Recently, the Island Government Council approved a draft tax ordinance to increase section B (waste not separated at source) from 41.57 to 60.60 euros.
Mari Brito had no qualms about calling attention to those neighbors who, despite having a clean point in the Güímar Industrial Estate, and the fact that the City Council offers a free belongings collection service on Tuesdays and Thursdays, continue to leave debris, mattresses and remains of works anywhere, “with points that have become real landfills, such as in the parking lots at the back of the cemetery,” said the municipal councilor. “We know that the collection service can be improved, but we ask citizens for help to avoid depositing belongings anywhere.”
In addition, he acknowledged that the increase in the garbage rate is pending a new ordinance and the new concession, and, although work is being done with Intervention for the new price – currently 72 euros are paid annually – it is not certain that this will reach the full before the end of the year, as will happen with the water bill, after an agreement with Aqualia, which is working on at least two important canals in streets such as La Punta and Vence, before they are repaved, a neighborhood demand for decades. .
