SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Oct. 15 (EUROPA PRESS) –
This weekend, Maritime Rescue has coordinated the rescue of 19 boats – including canoes, boats and inflatables – with a total of 1,012 migrants from various points on the African coast. Among the occupants of the barges were women, one of them pregnant, and children, according to data provided by the public organization, the Emergency and Security Coordinating Center (Cecoes) 1-1-2 and the Red Cross.
Only yesterday, Saturday, a total of 522 migrants arrived at the archipelago on board ten boats. Specifically, two boats arrived in Tenerife, one of them with 29 people, one of whom had to be taken to the hospital due to dehydration, and another with 50; 235 migrants went to Lanzarote in five boats; and to the island of El Hierro, 208 in three other boats.
For its part, so far this Sunday, nine boats with a total of 490 people have already arrived at the islands. Five boats have arrived on the island of Lanzarote alone and were rescued by the Al Nair sea guard and the Polimnia sea guard with 342 migrants on board of Maghreb and Sub-Saharan origin, among whom was a pregnant woman. Of them, 247 were taken to the port of Arrecife and 95 to Puerto Naos, where they were assisted by health personnel from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) and Red Cross volunteers. Four of those rescued were transferred to health centers for different pathologies.
The Maritime Rescue Coordination Center in Las Palmas also had to mobilize the salvamar Izar to rescue 71 migrants of sub-Saharan origin who were taken to the Gran Tarajal dock, in the municipality of Tuineje, in Fuerteventura, requiring a transfer to health center for different pathologies.
Likewise, the Civil Guard reported a suspicious echo, a possible boat, 99 miles southeast of Maspalomas. Once confirmed by the Nunki sea rescue, they proceeded to rescue 84 sub-Saharan people (68 men, 14 women and 2 minors) who were taken to the port of Las Palmas. As reported by the Red Cross, 3 transfers were made to health centers for different pathologies.
Meanwhile, the Makondo sea rescuer intervened in the rescue of 84 sub-Saharan migrants (71 men, 11 women and 2 women) who had left Dakhla in an inflatable boat, who have been transferred to the port of Arguineguín. Six of them had to be transferred to health centers.
Finally, after half past five in the afternoon, another boat with 4 people arrived in the municipality of El Pinar, on the island of El Hierro, one of whom had to be transferred to the Virgen de los Reyes Hospital for different pathologies.
