The appearance of pollution levels higher than those allowed in Arafo’s water for human consumption forced, yesterday afternoon, to send two tanker trucks to the municipality for its distribution, according to Aqualia, the concessionaire company for this service.

Specifically, two vehicles with a total capacity of 18,000 cubic meters of water were located in two spaces – the town center and La Hidalga areas. One of the trucks had a volume of 10,000 cubic meters and the other 8,000, according to the data provided by this company, which yesterday afternoon assured that the demand was being very high from the neighbors, among other issues due to the high temperatures, for which subsequent replacements were foreseen, although there were no restrictions either on the amount of water per person or on the aforementioned replacements.

Contamination of drinking water

The current situation, according to a statement from the Aqualia itselfoccurs after, in the last analytical controls carried out, the presence of the bacteria Clostridium perfringens was detected.

Therefore, in compliance with what was established by the health authority in the Health Surveillance Program of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands, the population was informed that, as a preventive measure, the water had been classified as unsuitable for human consumption. supply.
