The plenary session of Tenerife Council approved yesterday a motion presented by CC and PP, partners of the island Government, and which became institutional with an agreement with the other parties, to urge the Government of Spain to guarantee the electricity supply on the Island, with a total of 13 actions with the aim of promoting security and continuity of supply in Tenerife.
Among them, it is urged Ministry of Ecological Transition to authorize for emergency reasons the 80 MW facility of additional conventional electricity generation on the Island or those that are necessary according to the reports of the Government of the Canary Islands and the system operator. And Red de Eléctrica de España is also urged to complete the works and put into service by 2025 the new interconnection and electrical link between Tenerife and La Gomera.
The plenary session also approved, with 18 votes in favor and the abstention of the PSOE and Vox, a budget modification of 79.3 million that includes, among its main items, 29 million between 2024 and 2026 for recovery work in Monteverde and actions before the risk of falling trees and landslides and erosion. Along these lines, another 2.7 million will go to the Natural Environment area for emergency actions to meet the needs of the fire. Likewise, 46 million will be for the acquisition of 150 buses for Titsa, among other items.
The PSOE criticized that in this modification items already committed to municipalities and approved in the budget were deleted, and the Government group responded that those that were seen to not be able to be executed in the remainder of the year have been removed. year, but that they would be incorporated into the 2024 budget. For example, the socialist spokesperson, Pedro Martín, denounced that the 1.5 million were withdrawn to La Laguna for the future Northeast Market, to which the Primary Sector counselor, Valentín González responded that the agreement has not yet been signed because the City Council does not have a “budget allocation and the project has not yet been approved.” Even so, the island president, Rosa Dávila, stated that “I have contacted the mayor to ensure that the file can be available throughout this year and as soon as the City Council provides us with the documentation, we will bring a modification.”
On the other hand, the Minister of Housing, Sonia Hernández, appeared, at the request of the mixed group, to take stock of the work that is being carried out, such as the agreement with the Canary Islands Housing Institute to promote the acquisition of public land for construction of social housing, and for the acquisition of properties under construction. In addition, “we have increased the budget for the housing rehabilitation program,” from one to three million, to cover more lines of action, she added.
Regarding other issues, the PSOE asked about the deadline for the implementation of the Island’s Intelligent Emergency System (SIGE), to which the Minister of Innovation, Juan José Martínez, responded that “in the second half of 2025.” In fact, the Cabildo announced yesterday that it has reactivated the project to have a system whose investment will be around 3.7 million and that will respond to risks of forest fire, seismic, volcanological, hydrological and those associated with adverse meteorological phenomena.
Teide Rate
The PSOE also asked the insular Government about the deadlines for the fee that is proposed to be implemented to access Teide, in relation to the recent statements of the insular vice president, Lope Afonso, who responded that “the Government does not have specific deadlines” for an eventual implementation. , and indicated that he was “a supporter of the debate, but not lightly.”
In another question, the PSOE also urged the island Government to contact the Department of Public Works of the Government of the Canary Islands to put out to tender the works on the La Laguna ring road.
