The Cabildo promotes the tram and trains in the advancement of the Mobility Plan

The extension of tram Line 1 to the Airport Tenerife North and Line 2 to La Gallega, as well as the development of the Tren del Sur from Santa Cruz to Adeje (and its extension to Fonsalía, in Guía de Isora) and the Tren del Norte, to Los Realejos (and its extension to Icod of the Wines) are essential measures included among the 17 alternatives or projects included in the first phase of the Island Plan for Sustainable Mobility of the Island of Tenerife (Pimsit). This proposal seeks to encourage the use of public transport, for which it contemplates the need to advance in the restructuring of the bus network, adapting the service to users with greater flexibility.

Rosa Davila and Lope Afonso, president and vice president of the Cabildo of Tenerife, presented the document yesterday within the framework of the second meeting held with the social and economic agents of the Island to specifically address the improvement of mobility.

In this area, a Plan was released that includes an extensive analysis and diagnosis, in addition to the 17 proposals that combine road infrastructure projects, improvement of public transport, rail transport and mobility policies such as the regulation of surface parking or the establishment of Low Emission Zones. These measures will be enriched during the public exhibition phase of the document.

The Advance Plan structures its long-term development, establishes two temporary scenarios (2035 and 2045) and contemplates five large blocks in which infrastructure and mobility, public transport, transport financing and planned actions are analyzed, as well as such as planning proposals. The diagnosis leads to a clear conclusion: To achieve sustainable mobility, it is necessary to apply global measures with “a comprehensive vision of sustainability,” highlights the island Government in a statement.

Actions underway

The need to act on infrastructure is one of the axes of the Plan. Some of the actions contemplated in this matter are underway, such as the Island Ring and the project for a third lane in each direction, as well as the reorganization of links in the main road network in areas that register use intensities of 100,000 vehicles per year. day. This would occur on the Northern Highway (TF-5), between El Sauzal and La Laguna, and in the evening rush hour between Santa Cruz and Guamasa. On the South margin (TF-1), the same would occur between Adeje and Guaza (Arona). Another project that is already being worked on is the closure of the Island Ring to the West and the BUS-HOV lanes.

Parking lots

Parking regulation is included among the 17 proposals. In the advance of the Island Plan for Sustainable Mobility of the Island of Tenerife, it is specified that the regulation and management of parking in the areas of greatest demand would reduce congestion not only in urban areas, but also on access roads and on the two highways of the island.

Consensus

During the meeting held this Friday at the Insular Palace, the president of the Cabildo, Rosa Dávila, highlighted the importance of having the support of all sectors of society to improve mobility. In her opinion, “it is necessary to look for solutions together, because the challenge concerns us all. Hence, it is a very important step to learn about this plan at the second mobility meeting.

Dávila Mamely pointed out in this forum some of the measures that will be in the short term and “that we are carrying out at the moment” to achieve that objective. In this regard, he cited “the promotion of public transport by bus and tram, in addition to the interventions in infrastructure that provide relief for mobility by private vehicle in the Padre Anchieta and Guamasa area”, in the geographical area of La Lagoon.

Back

The Cabildo assured, through a statement, that at the meeting the attendees showed their support for the island Corporation in seeking joint solutions with a view to improving mobility on the Island. The president of the Provincial Federation of Entities of the Construction of Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Fepeco), Óscar Izquierdo, celebrated that “consensus is sought by the Cabildo, since we have gone from an Island of confrontations to one of consensus.” For her part, the vice-rector of the University of La Laguna, Candela Díaz, alluded to the importance of the coordination meetings that are being held and showed her full support for the actions that are necessary to improve mobility. This position was supported by the dean of the College of Civil, Canal and Port Engineers of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Luis Pintor, and by the president of the Alisios Norte Association, Ivan Rodriguez by Azero.
