This Friday, Major General Luis Cortés Delgado took office as the Chief of Staff of the Canary Islands Command in a ceremony presided over by Lieutenant General Julio Salom Herrera.
The events held in the Central Courtyard of the General Captaincy Palace of the Canary Islands began with the reading of the Order of appointment as Chief of the General Staff of the Canary Islands Command, followed by the reading of the Inauguration formula, after which, the General Cortés took the oath or promise of office.
Cortés highlighted his satisfaction with the command and the great responsibility it entails, willing to tackle the mission even in “difficult and complex times”, facing the pending challenges, according to a note from the Ministry of Defense.
Furthermore, he wanted to highlight the time of social changes that society is experiencing and, consequently, the progress that must be made in the Army, assuming an “absolute renewal of capabilities, of the way of using the means, of resilience and an availability model that will break with established patterns”.
Likewise, he emphasized its fundamental cardinal points such as preparation, planning, care for the environment, the Army’s own values and security, knowing all the risk analyzes and evaluating future actions.
General Cortés also wanted to highlight that “the Canary archipelago is considered to be a decisive strategic enclave as a bridge for Spain and Europe when looking towards the African Sahel and Ibero-America, further enhancing, if possible, the value of Spain as a reliable and safe ally in a globalized security environment”.
