Last Saturday, September 9, 95 people could not make their trip to the Costa de Azahar in Valencia because the trip provider had not made the necessary financial income in concepts such as hotel, excursions and transportation. The neighbors were informed of this while they were traveling to the airport. Shortly after, the communication came that the supplier was in critical condition in a hospital, after making an attempt on his own life.
We are aware that the final losers are those who make up the group of people who had paid for the trip – money they paid directly to the supplier, never to the Santiago del Teide City Council. For this reason, the municipal government manages a solution that satisfies the affected people, in particular and as a priority, and clears up doubts for citizens, in general.
Taking into account the circumstances, and admitting that we are all nervous, public representatives have the duty to act responsibly and not misrepresent in such a delicate situation. It is not acceptable for the councilors of the Canarian Coalition, Fidel Montesdeoca and Ariana Trujillo, to issue “delicate” comments on the matter nor, considering their status as members of the municipal corporation, to engage in political use of an issue that has these connotations.
