The mayor of Candelaria, Mari Brito, shows her satisfaction that it has finally been possible to award, by the General Directorate of the Coast and the Sea, the technical assistance of the project for the recovery of the maritime-terrestrial public domain, in which The protection of the heritage and the existing homes on La Arena street, affected by the waves, is contemplated. An action considered a priority by the City Council with the construction of a semi-submerged dam that secures the houses, affected by strong waves, depth, tides, the age of the buildings, among other causes.
An award that has as a counterpart, from the point of view of mobility in the municipality, bad news, as the recovery of the rotating parking is contemplated, which will not allow its use as a parking lot after many years. Instead, Costas, after a tender that expired in January, has now put out to tender the project to convert that land into a beach that joins those of Alcalde and Los Guanches.
Given the future disappearance of the parking lot, the City Council has already put out to tender the leasing of the use of lots to be used for parking in the town of Candelaria and its resolution is pending. In addition, in December 2021, the City Council enabled a temporary parking lot at the back of the Don Sixto Ships with capacity for 46 vehicles.
On the other hand, the Corporation has commissioned a new project for the municipal swimming pool to overcome the objections that led Costas in Madrid to reject the concession, in January 2023, despite having favorable reports from the Provincial Coastal Service, a file started in 2011. A project that is expected to be completed before the end of the year. Furthermore, the City Council has continued to defend the initial proposal by presenting an appeal before the National Court.
