La Laguna presents the exhibition ‘Monumenta’, by Yapci Ramos, which gives visibility to Guanche women

The Hermitage of San Miguel de La Laguna will hold the press conference to present the exhibition this Friday, September 8, starting at 10:00 a.m. Monumenta, 9 Guanche incarnationsby the plastic artist from Tenerife Yapci Ramoswhich can be visited until November 9.

Yapci Ramos questions the forms of representation of the Guanche past from a contemporary prism. ‘Monumenta’, was born from the concern caused by the low presence in the public space of monuments that represent Guanche women.

After observing different monuments on the island, among which the nine menceyes of the Plaza de la patrona de Canarias in Candelaria stand out, the artist undertakes a historical analysis to resolve the unknowns that underlie the unrepresented subjects. This project becomes an attempt to answer these questions, in order to propose an alternative and give them a voice from a renewed perspective.

The event will be attended by the Councilor for Culture of La Laguna, Dailos González; the island counselor of Culture, Museums of Tenerife and Sports, José Carlos Acha; and Yapci Ramos herself.
