Puerto de la Cruz is once again the capital of Carnival in the Canary Islands with the celebration since yesterday of the VIII edition of the Summer Carnival, which is claimed as a tourist commitment to show the best of one of the most iconic celebrations of the regional festive calendar, which continues working to be a showcase for the festival with the most international projection on the islands.

This year there was no official presentation and no announcements of the participation of well-known artists, as happened in 2021 with Marta Sánchez, who performed at the election gala of the only Carnival King existing in the Archipelago, which will take place this Friday at the Tourist Complex a 9:30 p.m., with performances by Jorge González, among others.

This year a program has been designed in which the Costa Martiánez Tourist Complex will once again be the protagonist by hosting the main events of Carnivals that want to be the perfect showcase for the winter festivities. “The Canary Islands Summer Carnival therefore redoubles its intention to exhibit all the colour, warmth and talent that this celebration that is so ours houses and that offers so many opportunities to the hundreds of families that make the Carnival a meeting of joy and excitement. also so that our tourists know first-hand what the carnivals mean for our city and for all of Canaria,” stressed the mayor, who invited all citizens to attend all the events that are being finalized and especially the election gala. of the king of Carnival.

The candidates for the scepter were presented yesterday at the opening gala with performances by the Portuense Carnival groups and Alejandra Bello, which will serve as the starting point for a party that will not stop until Sunday with a parade through the streets of Avenida Familia Betancourt and Molina, Avenida Colón and Plaza Reyes Católicos, “a true exaltation of our groups that continue to be the heart and soul of the Carnival that we do together,” said the Festival Councilor, Noemí Fernández, who counted this year for the direction of the events with the artist and choreographer from Porto Wycho Torres.

Sample to know the ins and outs

Tomorrow the inauguration of ExpoCarnaval 2023 will take place, a proposal in which you can learn about the ins and outs of the celebration and which, like other years, will be at the Martiánez Shopping Center. The exhibition, designed by Amarca, can be visited during business hours until Sunday.

As usual, during this week the different Carnival groups will perform in hotels in the Martiánez area to continue contributing to the visibility of the festival among tourists who visit the city.

The rest of the more fun events are concentrated on the weekend. Thus, on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. it will be the turn of the little ones who will be able to enjoy the Children’s Summer Carnival with inflatable aquatic castles and the foam party in the Reyes Católicos square.

At night, the pool complex designed by César Manrique will host the Float Party, which this year will be paired with the Puretas Project proposal, which will fill the costume party and the most original float with eighties flavors. Admission to this event is free but capacity is limited. This eighth edition closes on Sunday with the DJ Carnival Summer Party, which together with Marcha FM, has been specially designed to make the whole family dance and enjoy an end to the party.

After this now traditional event in the carnival calendar in the Canary Islands, Puerto de la Cruz begins to look forward to winter and, specifically, to February 2024, warming up the engines of the International Carnival, a celebration of a way of understanding open life, full of joy, with which the tourist city identifies itself to continue being a place where it is enjoyed without complexes, headquarters of one of the most traditional carnivals of the Islands.
