All the political formations with representation in the municipal plenary have given their unanimous support to the second phase of the rehabilitation project of the Plaza de San Jerónimo, an area that collapsed two years ago due to structural problems and that has already had a first phase, which consisted of the replacement of the affected section that runs along the bed of the ravine that bears the same name as this Tacorontero neighborhood.
The plenary agreement represents “the expected boost to this action,” said the mayor, José Daniel Díaz, who stated that he hoped that the final result of this historical environment “compensates for the delay it has suffered, on the one hand due to the inconveniences of the pandemic and on the other, because of the complex reality that always surrounds projects in which various administrations are involved”.
The scope of action of this project covers an area of 1,806 square meters, incorporating the road around the perimeter of the square and changing the space of the old construction for a more open surface, “giving the pedestrian priority in the new free space and visual permeability to the whole, creating in the environment a finish according to a historical space, which is part of the founding complex of the municipality”.
More useful public space
José Daniel Díaz Armas pointed out that “more useful public space will be gained, which will be enjoyed by its neighbors, also incorporating more garden areas throughout the square and the children’s playground area will be replaced.” In addition, he said that an interaction of the square, the road and the pre-existing court will be formed, “something that will be possible thanks to the lowering of the walls of these spaces, favoring a significant reduction in visual obstacles, since the entire environment runs through through a single space.
In addition, the municipal president explained that it is a project with architectural elements that make up a rehabilitation of an area with an important heritage value and whose model the current government group “intends to transfer to the rest of the neighborhoods and open spaces where coexistence is respected. between traffic and pedestrian.
