The Christians celebrate until Monday the festivities in honor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. An opportunity for neighbors and visitors to participate in the activities organized in this coastal center. The popular events began last night with the reading of the proclamation, by the singer-songwriter and local resident, Ramón Domínguez.
Among the scheduled events, the VII Hat Festival, which will take place this Saturday, from 12:00 to 21:00. It is a neighborhood gathering that unites the community in a day of coexistence, sharing food, drink and music under the shade of original and colorful hats. That originality will be rewarded, as an award will be given to the most creative and striking hat. This neighborhood gathering gains followers over the years and is now one of the moments of the party with the greatest participation.
Another distinctive feature of these festivals are the processions in honor of the Virgen del Carmenboth by land and by sea, as well as the floral offering that will take place on the seabed of Palm-Mar on Saturday, at 9:00 am. It is a tribute to the patron saint of fishermen that reflects the connection between the community and the sea that has sustained their lives for generations.
In addition to the main events, the festival program includes musical performances, dances and activities for all ages. The program is the result of the efforts of the Los Cristianos Festival Commission, aware of the idiosyncrasy of the town and its status as an important tourist space.
The festivities will end with the Boat Ring, which will take place on Monday at 6:00 p.m.a competition that will culminate with the traditional salpicón and the delivery of trophies in the Plaza de la Pescadora.
