The strong waves that are hitting the coast of Canary Islands has forced the closure of several beaches in the south of Tenerife. The State Meteorological Agency (aemet) maintains the yellow warning for this Saturday due to adverse coastal phenomena, with gusts of wind of around 60 kilometers per hour in the south of the Island.
For the moment, the beaches where the red flag are those of El Camisón, in Arona, and La Tejita, in Granadilla, whose coast has been affected in recent days by the presence of cyanobacteria.
Right in the middle of the heat wave suffered by the Canary Islandsare several beaches where bathing is prohibitedeither because of the waves, as is the case of El Camisón and La Tejita, or because of the poor quality of the water.
In this circumstance, the coast of Santa Cruz de Tenerife was also seen this Saturday morning: the presence of a microalgae stain forced the closure of the Valleseco beach. However around three in the afternoon it has opened again, turning the flag to yellow.
According to the Cecopal of the island capital, “the municipal and Civil Protection services together with the Red Cross corroborate that the microalgae stain and traces of hydrocarbons on the coast of Valleseco” so bathing is allowed with caution on the beach of El Bloque Acapulco.
A similar situation has occurred with the beaches of El Médano. The Granadilla City Council has informed on the afternoon of this Saturday that reopens three bathing areas, Playa Chica and the central and Leocadio Machado beaches, in El Médanoclosed this Friday for wastewater discharges. “The levels indicate that the quality of the water is suitable for bathing,” they say from the Consistory.
