The Cabildo unanimously supports the candidacy of Julián Fariña Rodríguez, director of the Virgen de Candelaria Integrated Vocational Training Center (CIFP), to obtain the Viera y Clavijo Medal, a regional distinction that rewards non-university educational work. All groups supported the initiative Canarian Coalition. His advisor Juana de la Rosa highlights “the extraordinary work” that the Tenerife teacher has done in the educational center located in the Ofra neighborhood of the capital for no less than 35 years.
The nationalist De la Rosa appreciates the support of all groups for her initiative. She values Fariña: “His work is extraordinary, both in his facet as a teacher – which began in 1987 – and in that of head of studies and director of the Virgen de Candelaria.”
Transformation.
Juana de la Rosa recalls that, “in recent times, Fariña has led the transformation from a Secondary Education Institute to an Integrated Center for Vocational Training.” She adds the counselor that «this step has meant a before and after for the educational community. On September 1, this objective materialized, opening up new horizons.
Since this academic year, it has become the headquarters of the Acredita program, which offers that bridge between the world of work and professional accreditation.
Collaboration.
Julián Fariña, values the proponent, “has always supported the initiatives that the Cabildo has proposed and has participated in specific and continuous actions.” Among them is the participation of students in training practices in work centers –tourist guides or sports monitors–, in the MusicalIES cultural project and in athletics days and competitions held at the facilities of the Athletics Center of Tenerife.
The approved motion also acknowledges the Cabildo’s recognition of the CIFP Virgen de Candelaria and its teaching team, in gratitude for their contribution to education and to Tenerife society as a whole. The center received the Viera y Clavijo distinction in 2020.
Trajectory.
Julián Fariña Rodríguez became a public function in 1987. He worked as a teacher from the 1986-87 academic year and has been part of the educational center since 1989-90. Thus, he joined the School Council of the IES Virgen de la Candelaria Polytechnic in the 1998-99 academic year and in the following year he became part of the management team with the position of Head of Studies in the morning shift. He carried out that work during 14 school courses. In 2013-14 he was appointed deputy director and, on January 1, 2014, director of the center, a position he currently holds. A quick summary highlights his mediating talent with the students and teachers. In relation to the center, he mentions his fight for educational quality and good academic management. He always opted for dual education and, under his direction, the offer of Sports Teaching has been established.
The award.
The purpose of the Viera y Clavijo distinction is to annually reward the work carried out by teachers, educational centers and groups of the non-university educational community of Canary Islands. Possible recipients are teachers, members of management teams or guidance personnel with at least fifteen years of service who, with destination in the Autonomous Community, have distinguished themselves by exemplary dedication to teaching work, exercise of office or educational guidance and psychopedagogy of the students.
Promotion of housing aid
The Canarian Coalition in the Cabildo has also seen unanimous support for its initiative to “promote the management of regional, national and European aid in housing.” The nationalist councilor Carmen Delia Alberto also achieved institutional support within the Plenary Commission for the Natural Environment, Primary Sector and Cooperation to create a technical team to manage public funds intended to “promote the rehabilitation and improvement of housing in Tenerife». The motion contemplates transferring to the governments of Spain and the Canary Islands the need to “study the creation of administrative units that provide support and facilitate the planning, management, execution and control of funds from the European recovery instrument (Next Generation) to the Cabildo to provide assistance to municipalities.
