The Council of Tenerife allocates one million euros for the maintenance of properties with heritage value. Each beneficiary of these grants may opt for a maximum of 20,000 euros and the deadline for the application is 45 calendar days after publication in the Official Gazette of the Province.
The Island Corporation gave the green light to the approval of the bases and the call for subsidies for the maintenance and improvement of properties with heritage values. The document contemplates the aid to be formalized through the model available on the website of the Cabildo de Tenerife https://sede.tenerife.es/.
The insular director of Territorial Planning and Historical Heritage, Isabel de Esteban, highlights the importance of this type of aid for the maintenance of immovable heritage, since “it not only prevents many privately owned buildings from deteriorating and even being lost, but that its necessary conservation affects the cultural wealth of the entire Tenerife society”.
Subsidies may be requested by natural persons and non-profit legal entities, except the Catholic Church and public administrations, in order to carry out maintenance, conservation, restoration and consolidation works consisting of interventions on facades and roofs, as well as in interiors on elements or parts of the property that retain their heritage value.
The eligible amounts are allocated to actions to be executed, already executed or in progress, with expenses generated from January 1, 2023.
The properties on which the interventions will be carried out must be of Cultural Interest (BIC) or that are in the process of being declared, in addition to those included in the Catalogs of the Special Plans for the Protection of Historic Sites or in the municipal inventories of cultural heritage assets, as well as those with a heritage interest.
The deadline for submitting applications is 45 calendar days, once published in the Official Gazette of the Province (BOP), while the deadline for carrying out subsidized actions is 12 months from the date on which the resolution of grant. On the other hand, the area of Insular Historical Heritage held a recent meeting with the general director of the area in the Government of the Canary IslandsMiguel Angel Clavijo.
He presented the proposal to create archaeological parks, which Tenerife lacks, and “to enable a network of places with history to disseminate their knowledge among the population.” As a starting point for the meeting, an assessment and a general diagnosis of the current situation of cultural heritage in Tenerife was made.
full collaboration
Isabel de Esteban valued the meeting “positively” because it revealed “a complete attitude of collaboration between the two administrations in aspects as important as archaeological projects and their interpretation centers, as well as the common objective of giving a determined impulse to the creation of the catalogs of the municipal patrimonies, always in close collaboration with the town councils».
The regional department team, led as a result of past elections of May 28 by Miguel Ángel Clavijo –he was number 14 on the list of Rosa Davila to the Cabildo–, undertakes to continue this round of contacts with the competent island institutions in matters of cultural heritage. The goal is to maintain fluid and collaborative communication to go hand in hand on projects.

Publicity abroad, an opportunity for extra income for the community of neighbors, with a view to saving expenses or the possible spillovers that the owners must face, but subject to various requirements. Recent election campaigns have made it topical, but it always requires prior approval by the board. The proposal to place advertising banners in the building requires the approval of the Board of Owners with the support of its three fifths in the participation fee. The Horizontal Property Law would be applicable for the rental of a common element. In any case, the possibility or not of advertising in the building will depend on the regional and local regulations regarding outdoor advertising. In the case of the municipality of Santa Cruz, for example, there is the Outdoor Advertising Ordinance approved in 2021. The regulations include advertising on rooftops, dividing walls, facades and buildings under construction. | JDM
