The City Council of La Orotava begins the reform, conditioning and improvement works in the 13 public schools of the municipality. These specific actions, demanded by the board of directors of the educational centers themselves after several visits and valued by the municipal technicians, will be carried out in summer taking advantage of the vacation period and inactivity of each school.
The mayor of Orotava, Francisco Linares, who has visited the works that are being carried out together with the Councilor for Municipal Services, Yurena Luis, appreciates the importance of these actions that “allow the educational spaces to be adapted, renovated and preserved so that they are operational and have greater comfort at the time of starting each school year”. Every year various works are included in each center and thus a continuous maintenance is carried out. This year a game of 300,000 euros of own resources is allocated for these works. The investment in the last four years is around 2 million euros.
The actions in each center are diverse, but fundamentally they focus on repair, maintenance and renovation. Among other things is the reform and adaptation of the dining area or kitchens; roofing of outdoor spaces or sports areas; rehabilitation and painting; creation of school gardens; adaptation of walls, bathrooms and classrooms; elimination of humidity; Conditioning of the pavement, doors, windows, fences, bars…; removal of architectural barriers and adaptation of classrooms and other spaces; soundproofing of classrooms and placement of parquet… The objective is to offer greater comfort, operability and well-being in each school for a better development of the different functions and educational and recreational activities.
The performances are carried out in the 13 public schools of the municipality: Santo Tomás de Aquino, San Agustín, Víctor Rodríguez de Benijos, Aguamansa, Manuel de Falla de Barroso, Leoncio Estévez Luis de La Florida, The light, Domínguez Alfonso, La Concepción, Inocencio Sosa from San Antonio, Ramón y Cajal and Santa Teresa de Jesús and Infanta Elena, from La Perdoma. The educational community of La Orotava has about 7,000 students.
The municipal technical office is in charge of carrying out the 13 projects that are awarded to as many companies, mostly from the municipality of La Orotava, which must meet the deadlines and requirements for the school year to start normally.
