The remodeling work on Calle de La Rosa will begin next Monday, the 17th. As announced, the transformation of the main street in the El Toscal neighborhood would be done after the end of classes (there are two schools in the environment) and once the land acquired on the same road was conditioned to alleviate the elimination of parking lots. The latter has already finished signaling with the more than 50 spaces for which it has capacity, and, this afternoon, the Santa Cruz City Council has summoned residents and merchants to give them details of the execution of the work and how they are going to see affected.
The Ferrovial company is in charge of executing the works, which have a budget of 4.3 million euros, and a maximum period of execution will be two years. The action on this street contemplates the elevation of the ground level to create a unique platform, as the Urban area is currently presented, with a complete delimitation of uses through different pavements.
This way of delimiting uses involves reconsidering the axis of the road for vehicle traffic and parking lanes, beautifying the street with trees that provide shaded areas and their corresponding irrigation network, and accessible street furniture.
The pertinent works will also be carried out to renew the public lighting network on sidewalks and underground services (water and sanitation), as well as other services, such as telecommunications and electricity and a new drainage network for rainwater. Finally, the placement of underground waste containers and the design of compatibility with the rest of the streets of the El Toscal neighborhood will be carried out.
All of this has an expected execution period of two years and financing that comes from Next Generation funds, of which the City Council has obtained 9.4 million to limit traffic in the city center, so the remodeling of La Rosa street will be charged to part of these funds, specifically for 1.7 million.
Parking lots
The work will mean the elimination of 188 parking spaces on the surface, so the parking spaces on the site and the 95 that will remain in the area after the work will not be enough for residents and businesses, which is why the City Council has announced that this This point in the city will be the first in which the so-called Green Parking Zone will be implemented after the completion of the works.
This color will identify residents and businesses in the area, who will be able to park at no cost, while the rest will have time limits and a cost for parking at certain points. La Rosa street will be the central axis of the future Low Emission Zone, which includes this Green Zone for residents.
At this afternoon’s meeting, the residents will be informed of the details of a work that is of particular concern to the commercial sector, which has already seen how numerous the premises are for rent or for sale after the closure of the businesses that were in them .
